Every year, Loy Krathong falls on the night of the twelfth lunar month (usually in November), at the end of the rainy season when the full-moon lights up the sky. The sight of thousands of Krathongs, One of the most picturesque festivals in Bangkok is the evening of Loy Krathong, when people gather around lakes, rivers and canals to pay respects to the goddess of water by releasing beautiful lotus shaped rafts, decorated with candles, incense and flowers onto the water.

Flickering candles sending a thousand pinpoints of light far into the horizon is a truly magical site, and there are plenty of places in Bangkok where you can get involved with the festivities.

DATE:  NOVEMBER 25TH

PLACE:  KLONGS / CANALS / RIVERS

WHAT IS IT:        LOY KRATHONG CULTURE      HOW TO MAKE ONE

Loy krathong's lyrics

November full moon shines, Loi Krathong, Loi Krathong, and the water's high in the river and local klong,

Loi Loi Krathong, Loi Loi Krathong, Loi Krathong is here and everybody's full of cheer,

We're together at the klong, We're together at the klong,

Each one with this krathong, As we push away we pray,
We can see a better day.

  • 110 yrs of scientists climate scares source The years Scientists seeking funding and journalists seeking an audience agree: panic sells. “Global cooling is going to kills us all!” “No, wait: global warming is going to kill us all!” All that’s missing is a back-and-forth of “You shut up!” “No, you shut up!” That is reserved for those who doubt the need for panic. That’s the gist of an amazing chronology of the last 120 years of scare-mongering on climate, assembled by butnowyouknow.net and reprinted by the estimable Anthony Watts in Wattsupwiththat, who updates it to the present. It is truly mind-boggling: 1895 - Geologists Think the World May Be Frozen Up Again – New York Times, February 1895 1902 - “Disappearing Glaciers ...

  • so this is what a Vegan does, right ? The number of animals that die each and every day to produce vegan food is astonishing. Matthew Evans. Picture: Alan Benson From The Weekend Australian Magazine source There’s a lot to be said for veganism. For the thinking eater, it gets around a whole bunch of ethical grey areas. If you care about what you put in your mouth, it is probably the most black and white way to approach the whole meat thing. There are no grey areas about so-called “ethical” meat, or questions over exactly how “free range” are the hens when there are 10,000 chickens to the hectare. Not eating meat, not buying products that come from animals — surely that means you’re doing ...

Slightly crazy? Perhaps next to a person being ignored?  As we are sucked in ever more by the screens we carry around, even in the company of friends and family, the hunched pose of the phone-absorbed seems increasingly normal. US photographer Eric Pickersgill has created “Removed,” a series of photos to remind us of how strange that pose actually is.  In each portrait, electronic devices have been “edited out” (removed before the photo was taken, from people who’d been ...
