PRIVATE RIVER KWAI TOUR (with ELEPHANT TREKING & BAMBOO RAFTING)

River Kwai

Daily Full Day Tours

This is an interesting full day exploring some of the more recent history of Thailand, in one of its most beautiful provinces, Kanchanaburi. In the centre of the provincial town lies the famous bridge itself, made famous by the iconic David Lean movie which highlighted the plight of the allied Prisoners of War that laboured to build the infamous Death Railway from Bangkok to Rangoon in Burma under the most terrible conditions of malnutrition and illness in the harsh jungles of this region. So many POWs and even more local people died during the course of its construction.

During the tour you will visit the Bridge itself, one of the allied war cemeteries in Kanchanaburi, & the nearby JEATH War Museum as well as take a trip along the Death Railway itself by train where you will get spectacular river and jungle scenery views from the viaducts constructed by the POWs

On our private tour routing we can see even more: the amazing Wat Tham Sua Temple in Tha Muang district, a spectacular and beautiful temple on a hill in the middle of rice paddy fields. We will take a walk along the railway tracks themselves at the Tham Krasae viaduct to see a cave with a Buddha image inside. There is an option also to visit an elephant camp for some memorable elephant trekking and bamboo rafting through the jungle scenery.

AYUTTHAYA PRIVATE TOURS

Ayutthaya Tours

Daily Full Day Tour

Further upriver from Bangkok lies Ayutthaya the once proud and ancient capital city of Siam for 5 centuries, until the Burmese razed it to the ground in 1767. So much was destroyed, so many treasures lost that historians liken the Burmese attack as the equivalent of the Atomic Bomb over Hiroshima. What remains of this ancient capital is now lovingly preserved, and on our tour we will visit a few of the ancient temples and palaces within the old city walls. Nearby is the more modern Summer Palace of Bang Pa In built by King Rama V, where you can tour several of the pavilions and buildings within the grounds.

There are several river cruise tours to choose from in visiting Ayutthaya with different types and styles of boat. There are 2 possible routings: up by coach and return by boat, or vice versa.

Join Tour: routing is subject to availability & will be confirmed at time of booking. All prices include transfers to and from River City by the boat operator at the start and end of the tour, and a buffet lunch will be served on board each of the boats on the way to or back from Ayutthaya. Alternatively we can arrange the Ayutthaya and Bang Pa In sightseeing as a Private Tour and joining the Boat for the buffet lunch on board and the leisurely river cruise.

BIRD’S EYE VIEW OF BANGKOK

BIRD’S EYE VIEW OF BANGKOK

Over the past couple of decades the Bangkok skyline has changed immeasurably with a mushrooming of skyscrapers city wide. Here in Bangkok we have one of the tallest hotels in the world, the Baiyoke Sky Tower, currently lying at #7 in the list (the tallest is in Hong Kong and the next 5 in Dubai). The views from the top are incredible, and you can see right out to the sea on the horizon. The Baiyoke Sky is in the middle of Bangkok’s Pratunam wholesale market for fabrics and materials – very popular with our guests. While you are out shopping, why not take a look at Bangkok from on high, and enjoy a nice lunch or dinner too?

Bird’s Eye View sightseeing package only includes

  1. Entrance to the indoor Observation Deck on the 77th Floor (open 10:00 to 22:00 hours), with a 360º uninterrupted view out across the city with telescopes (at a charge) and descriptions, maps and a guide of what you can see
  2. Entrance to the outdoor Sky Walk Revolving Roof Deck on the 84th Floor (open 10:00 to 22:00 hours). This is outdoors and can get pretty windy up there, but the views are amazing!
  3. One Standard Drink per person (Fruit Juice, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, Beer, Thai Whisky with mixer, Soft Drink)

Bird’s Eye View Lunch or Dinner Packages include:

  1. Entrance to both the indoor Observation Deck on the 77th Floor and the outdoor Sky Walk Revolving Roof Deck on the 84th Floor
  2. Entrance to the outdoor Sky Walk Revolving Roof Deck on the 84th Floor (open 10:00 to 22:00 hours). This is outdoors and can get pretty windy up there, but the views are amazing!

Our Opinion: Here in tropical Bangkok, the sun always sets about 6 p.m., and night falls very quickly. The city looks so different between day time and night time, so the late afternoon & early evening is a great time to go when you can see the contrast as the views change from day to night.

CALYPSO CABARET SHOW at ASIATIQUE

CALYPSO CABARET SHOW at ASIATIQUE

Daily Evening Tour

That famous expression “boys will be boys” isn’t necessarily true here in Thailand where sometimes boys will be girls. And when boys chose to be girls they very often take part in one of the famous Thai institutions: the Cabaret Show. Cabaret Shows are musical performances where the performers will dress extravagantly and gorgeously to look like the real singer, and they lip synch to songs. The stage sets, choreography, lighting and sound are excellent and make for a wonderful show. In any typical show you can see Madonna, Lady Gaga, Tina Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and so on... they’re all here in Bangkok!

Calypso is perhaps Bangkok’s best Cabaret Show. So much so, that the real Lady Gaga on her recent concert tour in Bangkok came to see the Calypso show herself first hand and by all accounts was very impressed!

For years, Calypso’s home was at the Asia Hotel. But now they have moved to a brand new riverside entertainment, dining and shopping complex called Asiatique. The theatre can seat up to 450 people, with seats around cozy, round tables & you’ll have a complimentary drink during the show. Afterwards you can take a few photos with some of the ‘stars’ for some memorable snaps to show off on Facebook!

There are 3 choices for the Calypso Show Tour:

1) The Main Calypso Cabaret Show, ticket only, 2 shows nightly at 20:15 and 21:45

2) A Thai Dinner with classical Thai Dance Show performed by the Calypso Girls, 2 sittings and shows nightly at 19:15 and 20:45

3) Or see both shows together – have a nice Thai dinner first and then see the Cabaret show afterwards

Calypso transfers are available, but only if there is a minimum of 4 persons, so it’s easier to get to Asiatique by taxi or by Skytrain (to Saphan Thaksin station) and take the Asiatique shuttle boat from there.

Allow at least an hour to get to River City, more if it’s raining, even more if it’s a Friday, and much more if it’s a Friday when it’s just been a pay day!

EVENING DINNER RIVER CRUISES, round trip transfers included

All of the following tours include a round trip transfer by the cruise operator. The transfers may take over an hour each way during the hectic evening rush hours in the city.

SIAM NIRAMIT

SIAM NIRAMIT

Daily Evening Tours

Siam Niramit is a truly amazing spectacular show based on Thailand’s cultural heritage, featuring a gigantic stage, over 100 performers, with lavish costumes, stunning sets & amazing special effects. This show is well worth a visit!

The first act of the show is a historical look at all 4 regions of the Kingdom and their influences on Thai culture. The second act pays a visit to the 3 realms central to Thai beliefs: heaven, hell and a mythical forest that lies in between the other two. And the final act is to show some of the important & popular festivals in Thailand.

The lavish effects are quite extraordinary like the presence of real water on the stage: you will see a Thai villager jump into a pool to bathe on stage, and a floating market where the boats are rowed across the front of the stage, and later during a recreation of the loy krathong festival, the villagers float their krathongs in the ‘river’ at the front of the stage. Quite amazing!

Siam Niramit’s gates open at 17:30, and there’s plenty to explore before the show starts at 20:00. A tasty Thai & Western buffet dinner is served at the restaurant from 17:30 to 19:45 hrs The other main attraction within the grounds is the Village of the Four Regions with traditional wooden houses from the four rural areas of Thailand highlighting their lifestyle, arts and crafts Also available are Traditional Thai Massage, Outdoor performances, Elephant rides and shops

THAI BOXING TOUR

THAI BOXING TOUR

Daily Evening Tour

Thailand’s national sport is Muay Thai, or Thai Boxing as it is known to a lot of westerners. After more exposure from TV shows and famous movies such as “Ong Bak”, Muay Thai is becoming more popular the world over. So what could be better than witnessing an evening’s exciting Thai Boxing here in Bangkok, the home of the sport! With packed houses every evening, there are not many other sports that generate the electric atmosphere and level of noise and excitement that Thai Boxing does!

Let’s forget the ‘nice’ Queensberry rules of traditional boxing that use just two limbs, the fists. In Thailand, Muay Thai is a combat sport & martial art referred to as the Art of the Eight Limbs, as each fighter will strike with punches, kicks, elbows and knees for a truly spectacular fight. There are two main boxing stadiums where Thai Boxers will dream of becoming champion fighters: Rajadamnoen and Lumpini. Fights are fast and furious: each bout has five rounds of three minutes, with breaks of two minutes between rounds. Before their fight, the boxers will perform a ‘wai khru’ dance, where they are paying homage to their teachers.

Rajadamnoen Stadium is near the oldest part of Bangkok on Rajadamnoen Avenue. The stadium has air conditioning.

  • • Fights are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 18:30 to 22:30 hrs
  • • On Sundays the programme is longer from 18:00 to 22:30 hrs

Lumpini Stadium is in the centre of the city, close to Lumpini Park on Rama IV Road. The stadium does not have air conditioning, but it has giant fans to keep the atmosphere cooled.

  • • Fights are held on Tuesdays & Fridays from 18:30 to 22:30 hrs
  • • On Saturdays there are two programmes. The first is from 16:00 to 19:30 hrs and the second from 20:30 hrs to midnight

At either of these stadiums, you will have a ringside seat to witness the fights from the best possible viewpoint. Packed up behind you will be the locals in the 2nd and 3rd class tiers where you will see frantic hand signals as the bout progresses from the gambling. You’ll be able to take a photo with some of the champion boxers during the evening.

THAI DINNER with THAI CLASSICAL DANCE at Silom Village

THAI DINNER with THAI CLASSICAL DANCE at Silom Village

Evening Tour: Daily except Wednesdays and Sundays

Come immerse yourself in some Thai culture. Enjoy a typical Thai dinner, and watch an exquisite elegant and graceful performance of classical Thai dancing on the stage during your meal. Our venue is the Ruen Thep Room at Silom Village. Before and after the show there is an opportunity for some great shopping at the stalls and shops in Silom Village.

Tours for Two: Unseen Bangkok

Tours for Two: Unseen Bangkok

Daily Evening Tour for 1 or 2 people

A Bangkok experience with one of our guides, using Public Transportation

Here we take you on a tour in the early evening to experience Bangkok in a different way to a normal tour. Our guide will take you on all sorts of interesting transportation: the Skytrain, River Taxi, a Tuk Tuk, a normal Taxi, and a river ferry

Sights and sounds that you will see include:

Visiting the grounds of the impressive Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, after it has closed for the day. This temple is an iconic image of Bangkok. But you will see it after all the crowds have gone: floodlight and quiet, the only sound being the tinkling temple bells in the early evening breeze.

Crossing the river we will visit the amazing Pak Klong Talat fresh flower market. This market operates 24 hours a day, but somehow it looks its best in the evening hours as the deliveries of fresh flowers and orchids arrive from up country. We will stroll through the market where colourful exotic orchids are piled waist deep on the pavements. You will see garland makers busy at work making beautiful Thai garlands for the many ceremonies that lie ahead the following day. And beyond the flower market there is the fresh fruit and vegetable markets to explore.

We then take a taxi to the World Trade Centre area of town where we take a look at some of the shrines in the area where the local people strongly believe their wishes can be granted: at the Erawan Shrine people pray for good fortune, and the Trimurti Shrine, people pray for love.

Daily (except Sunday) Morning or Afternoon Tour for 1 or 2 people

A Bangkok experience with one of our guides, using Public Transportation

Here we take you on a tour in the early evening to experience Bangkok in a different way to a normal tour. Our guide will take you to visit these two interesting museums by taxi and Skytrain

Suan Pakkad Palace
Tucked away in a quiet garden oasis opposite the Sukosol Hotel (Siam City) is the beautiful Suan Pakkad Palace museum (it translates as Cabbage Patch!) housing a collection of antiques, art & ceramics, displayed in a collection of traditional old Siamese houses and pavilions. Be sure to see the Lacquer Pavilion, over 450 years old, the museum's most impressive and exquisite building.

Jim Thompson House
Jim Thompson was an American entrepreneur who came to Thailand at the end of the 2nd World War. After leaving the Army & the forerunner of what became the CIA, for the next 2 decades, Jim Thompson helped revitalize the Thai Silk Industry, and took great pride in maintaining it as a cottage industry where the workforce remained in their villages in Isarn, the North East of Thailand. In the late 50's he built his now famous "House by the Klong" in Bangkok, made up of 6 traditional Thai wooden houses, and richly decorated with antiques and treasures that he collected during his stay in Asia. The House and his famous collection of objects d'art is now a museum, and can be visited every day except Sunday. Jim Thompson disappeared mysteriously in the Cameron Highlands in 1967 and was never heard of again. But his name still lives on in in that most famous of Thai silk brands: it's worth visiting the main Jim Thompson showroom on Suriwong Road, and there are also retail outlets at the Jim Thompson House & Museum, the Central World shopping mall and you can try visiting their factory outlet for discounted prices in Sukhumvit Soi 93.

Tours for Two: Prasart Museum

Tours for Two: Prasart Museum

Friday, Saturday or Sunday mornings only – by appointment only. Tour for 1 or 2 people

A Bangkok experience with one of our guides, using Public Transportation

Tucked away in the Eastern suburbs of the city, and with visits by appointment only, this private museum is a haven of peace and tranquility for those interested in learning about Thai culture and history. The museum’s founder and owner, Mr Prasart, was so upset at seeing so many of Thailand’s artifacts & treasures sold abroad he decided to build this museum for the people.

Set in lush gardens, there are replicas of old Thai palaces and royal residences, including the Red Palace and a colonial mansion. Pieces on display date from the prehistoric to the more modern Bangkok era all lovingly collected and assembled by Mr Prasart over the decades.

Despite an army of 30 gardeners and caretakers who look after the museum and gardens, Mr Prasart still regards himself as the Chief Gardener, and will often greet and chat with visitors to his private museum.

Tours for Two: Good Morning Bangkok!

Tours for Two: Good Morning Bangkok!

Daily early mornings only. Tour for 1 or 2 people

A Bangkok experience with one of our guides, using Public Transportation

If jet lag still troubles your sleeping pattern due to the time difference to home, here’s a tour to suit: a tour that starts before dawn and shows you how the City of Angels wakes up from its slumbers to greet the dawn.

We’ll leave your hotel at dawn… and head for Lumpini Park in the centre of the city. These green lungs of the city are home to an army of people in the very early morning hours, practicing the ancient Chinese art of Tai Chi. Chinese music, gentle yet firm movements, and people of all ages, all doing their morning exercises. Around the park we will try some local breakfast snacks: the local Thai tea and coffee, and Chinese style fried pastries!

Then we will see the spiritual aspect of the city. We will visit the Marble Temple, Wat Benjamaphorphit, where local people will come to make merit and give alms to the monks, something that is particularly important on their birthday. You too can join the ceremony. Our guide will arrange everything for you, and explain how to give the alms respectfully. A truly fascinating insight.
