If you want to go fast .. go alone, if you want to go far, go together
![]() share this page http://goo.gl/rmBsyh One of the hassles of living in Bangkok is the traffic. The city is almost always congested and you can never find a taxi when you’re in a hurry. However one of the fastest ways to travel around the city is to ride a Bangkok motorcycle taxi. With their ability to zip in and out of traffic (and even occasionally on the sidewalk!) a motorcycle taxi can get you to your destination faster than any other form of transport. No doubt one of the fastest ways to get around town is the local Motor Bike Taxi service. They have no hesitation weaving and dodging through most everything, not just the traffic jam on the streets but on the footpath, back alleys and many short cuts, whilst it's obviously very dangerous it's an option that many will opt for during peak hour traffic Despite the obvious and immediate hazards - these riders are fearless, they will do most anything to get you to your destination quickly, even if it means driving in the opposing traffic lane! - many brave passengers opt for the two-wheeled vehicles. They are required by law to wear a special orange vest. You will find the drivers in cluster groups near street corners or near shopping buildings and Skytrain and underground stations.
FaresFares are usually negotiated in advance and for a quick 5 min ride 20 – 40 Baht is average. Most motorcycle taxi drives will have little contact with foreigners, so keep in mind that their English skills may be limited. You may want to write down your destination or home address so you can easily show it to the driver rather than speaking it. If speed is a priority, nothing can beat a motorcycle taxi, but be aware of the risks and keep those knees in tight when threading through the Bangkok traffic.
It's important to negotiate prior to the journey, or else you might find yourself paying more than the locals and on that point it is common for foreigners to be charged more for most everything so get used to it.
Always wear a safety helmet - not only for obvious reasons, but because foreigners are easy targets for spot fines (up to 1,000 baht, depending on the mood of the traffic officer).
How Safe Are They? Not safe at all especially if you've never been on one because you need to balance with the driver and if you don't it could cause and accident. Not only that but many factors about Bangkok traffic makes riding a motorbike dangerous due to the fact that there are no rules. Or, if there are, no-one obeys them and motorbikes are the least of people's concerns.Good alternatives
