Thong Lo – or Thonglor (Sukhumvit Soi 55) – is the hub for Bangkok’s younger brigade, urban and chic types. Zone: Sukhumvit, tour icons Family, Shopping, Nightlife
Thong lo (roughly translated) means molten gold, and for a street that has established itself over the past five years as the city’s most affluent neighbourhood, where a constant flow of sophisticated Thais and expat foodies arrive with healthy bank balances and an appetite for new drinking and dining experiences, this description couldn’t be more apt.
The main action happens around Thonglor Soi 10, with clubs like Muse, Demo, Funky Villa, Eskobar and Nang Len all packed-out most nights after 22:00. For a slightly more chilled out scene, recommended venues include the uber-cool Iron Fairies and Fat Gutz, as well as Octave rooftop bar and the quirky WTF cafe.
A significant and constantly growing line up of boutique malls as well as concept restaurants and bars. But the real action begins after sundown, as the hip and well-to-do crowd descends on Thonglor for a fun and intoxicating night out.
