General introduction, Major Shopping Centres, Loyalty cards and a few shopping items Bangkok offers you the extreme opportunty to indulge in "start the art" sophisticated shopping at 5 star premium label shopping centres as well as transcending history with a multiple chocies of markets that compliment Nationality, regions and themes. Bangkok has numerous department stores and shopping centres. The larger chains, like Central, Robinson, Tesco Lotus, Carrefour and The Mall, have branches in many location. Usually these are very large with an extensive range of specially goods, haicraft shops and supermarkets. Some have entertainment areas including cinemas, skating, rinks, video games or play areas for children and teenagers. Most centres have an area allocated for ‘theme’ sales or promotions e.g. computers/mobile telephone/electrical appliances, shoes/handbags.
Many of the large stores and chains offer royalty cards which offer further discounts, special deals, redeemable vouchers etc. They are either free or have a very small cost.
59 Sukhumvit Soi 15 T: 02-651-0062. Open: 09.00-19.00 daily A few hundred metres down the soi on the left if you are coming from Sukhumvit, at street level of Wattana Suites building. No name on shop. Stocks small sizes, nothing bigger than size 6 US/ size 10 Australia. Good range of desiner brand name: shorts, t-shirts, coats, ‘prom’ dresses, dressy daywear. We suspect by the name and the size range that these might be clothes that have been used for photo shoots and fashion parades. Not cheap but good value for well-known labels.

Open: 10.00-22.00 daily. Before you start check out the website or pick up a hard copy of the ‘Shopping Directory’ from any of the information booths. Zone: Siam <> Directory Centres <> Map link <> w: Central world Asia book and Kinokuniya bookshop. Home to a Toys-R-Us, a Central food hall, along with cinema.
| Chatuchak (Jatujak) Market
Open:08.00-18.00 Sat-Sun, some shops open on Friday. 3 stars: This place is absolutely massive, largest outdoor markets in Asia. Lots of trendy clothes for teens and young adults. E.g. one stall in Soi 18 stocks original, one-off Billabong board shorts while another stall has secondhand T-shirts that appeal to a very specific market. Just explore regularly to find something absolutely unique. Zone: Chatuchak <> map link <> w: Chatuchak Market Access: BTS skytrain station and a brief (1km walk) past the Park.
| Emporium BTS line Sukhumvit
622 Sukhumvit Rd. (cnr Soi 24). BTS: Phrom Phong T: 02-269-1000. 5 stars: Open: 10.00-22.00 daily. The complex includes the Emporium department stores and various specialty stores including designer stores (DKNY, Amani, Guess, Chanel, Christian Dior, Versace, two bookshops (Kinokuniya and Asia Books), Gourmet Mart supermarket, Jim Thompson, Boots pharmacy, restaurants and a food court on the 5th floor. Includes a cinema complex on the 6th floor and upmarket Thai crafts on the 4th floor. Zone: Sukhumvit <> map link <> w: Emporium Access: connects directly to BTS skytrain station Phrom Phong.
| Erawan BTS line between Siam and Sukhumvit Cnr Ratchadamri and Phloen Chit Rds. BTS: Chit Lom. Upmarket shopping centre, all the usual-name brand stores can be found here. Also home to the erawan tea room, Urban kitchen(food court) and slew of "wellness" outlets and dance fitness/studio on the higher floors. Open 10am -10pm daily.
| Esplanade Shopping Center99 Ratchadaphisek Rd. MRT: Thailand Culture Center exit 3. Excellent indoor skateboarding venue located within the the skateboard shop on the ground floor. Seven (7) complex housing multiple theatres including an Imax, Sub Zero ice skating rink, Blue-o-Rhythm and Bowl, with 24 lanes and 13 karaoke booths.
| Positioning itself as a rival to the luxury retail complexes of Hong kong and Malaysia. Gaysorn House Bangkok's flagship stores for foreign luxury brands including Luis Vuitton, Prada, Dior, Fendi. The store on the Third floor featuring top quality Thai decorator goods make a visit worthwhile. They also have some interesting art and fashion exhibition on show on the first floor on time to time. Open 10am -10 pm daily.
| MBK (Mah Boon Krong) BTS line Zone Siam 5stars: The popular peoples choice for most everyone
Multi-level, maze-like shopping center, popular with locals for ‘market-style’ general shopping. Clothing, especially for teenagers, leather goods, shoes electronics, mobile phones, computers and software, jewellery, music, furniture etc. Food court on the 5th floor, restaurants on the 6th floor. Tokyu department store is at the northern end.
Access: sky bridge connection from BTS skytrain stattion National Stadium.
| Pantip Plaza BTS line between Sukhumvit and Siam 3.5 star - little dated lower prices (4 flrs) Phetchaburi Rd (over the khlong and around the corner, 1km from Central World). BTS: Ratchathewi Canal Pier 22 Zone: Ratchathewi <> map link <> w: Pantip Plaza It's famous as a combined market and shopping complex of booths and shop dedicated to selling all types of computer hardware, software, peripherals, accessories and repair services at hard to beat prices. Pantip also has some good bookshops selling manuals, magazines etc in English.This venue is noted in Beginners Tour
| Peninsula Plaza 153 Ratchadamri Rd. (next to the Four Season). BTS: Ratchadmari. Upmarket shopping complex with designer stores, branch of Asia books, a good restaurant on mezzanine floor plus several children’s toy clothing stores.
|  Platinum Mall BTS line between Sukhumvit and Siam Phetchaburi Rd. (opp Amari Watergate Hotel). BTS: Rahcthewi. 4 stars: Open 10.00-20.00 daily. Most stores sell wholesale and retail so do a deal for bulk amounts. 5flrs housing over 2,000 shops of clothing, shoes, fashion jewellery and accessories. The sixth floor offers respite with a huge array of eateries. Zone: Ratchathewi <> map link <> w: The Platinum Mall Tips: Many isles (Soi) to find your shop buddies remember the isle number.
| Ploenchit Center Sukhumvit Soi 2. BTS: Nana. Small centre with some outdoor stores, banks, Boots and a Villa Market in basement. Also has good restaurants locates on basement level.
|  Yotha Rd. Off Charoen Krung Rd. (Next to Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel). Pier: Si Phraya. Open: 10.00-21.30 daily. Large complex on the banks of the Chao Praya River. Renowned as the Asian antiques centre. Also has stores with collectables, handicrafts and silk clothing. Monthly antique auctions and regular exhibitions are held in the grand hall. A ’lifestyle mall’ with a large number of specialty stores including decorative products, fashion, furniture, homeware and books. Upmarket retail and entertainment centre with a large department store, Gourmet Mart, Power Mall, large cinema complex, Imax theatre and home to the Siam Ocean World aquarium. Also has a food court reputed to be the largest in the region. A children’s play area in located on the 3rd floor of the department store.

| Tesco Lotus - low cost family supermarket chain
Superstore containing homewares, supermarket and fast food.
Opening hours are generally 08.00-21.00, although Sukhumvit Soi 50 branch opens at 06.00. See website for locations, opening times etc.
